A Reminder of What the Gospel Does

“You have been told that God is a loving, gracious, merciful, kind, compassionate, wonderful, and good sky fairy who runs a day care in the sky and has a bucket of suckers for everyone because we're all good people. That is a lie... God looks down and says 'I hate you, you are my enemy, and I will crush you,' and we say that is deserved, right and just, and then God says 'Because of Jesus I will love you and forgive you.' This is a miracle.” – Mark Driscoll

I thought we were reconciled to God?
This quote makes it seem that God was reconciled to man, that God has to be convinced by Jesus to love us.
I thought God loves us period. While we were still sinners and all that. Now I don't believe we are good people, however I believe in a God who is way beyond our understanding and actually is loving, merciful, kind compassionate and wonderful.
The gospel is good news.
Mark Driscolls gospel sounds like it's bad news, God hates you, but Jesus thinks you're alright! God's angry and wants to crush you but Jesus begs him not to.
I thought Jesus was the full representation of God?

The Father does not have to be conditioned into being gracious.

Hosea 8:15 seems to give credence to Driscoll using the language that God hates evildoers (which includes us all).
